Norma23 Creperie

An authentic French creperie in Plečnik’s arcade.

Norma23 is the second French-styled restaurant that I found in the city and it’s a perfect complement to Le Petit Cafe with a  very different atmosphere. It is located on the edge of the Ljubljanica,  overlooking Pogačarjev trg, the smaller of two market squares in the old town. Even when this square is filled with the Friday open kitchen, Norma23 remains a bustling street cafe that’s popular with locals and tourists.

This cafe describes itself as Ljubljana’s first french creperie and the food is as deliciously and authentically Breton as almost  anything I’ve tasted in France. Many people use Norma23 for coffee and drinks during the day as its a great central location to meet. This is also perhaps because of the keen prices which seem a little lower than the surrounding old town locations.

For me, this is a great spot for a fast lunch and as the photo above suggests, I’d recommend trying “La Complete”; a buckwheat galette with emmental cheese, cooked ham and poached egg. And after you finish, Norma23 is a perfect spot to relax for a while as the historic Plečnik arcade is south facing and catches all the afternoon sun. You may even feel a little more like a local here than in the other parts of Ljubljana’s riverside.

Here’s a link to the English menu.
